Welcome to: Romance with a Side of Science Newsletter

First Issue, April 2026

First issue of 'Romance with a Side of Science' by indie romance author Emma Aiseman

Hello, Book Friends! I'm thrilled to finally share the first installment of my Emma Aiseman newsletter, *Romance with a Side of Science*. Each month, I’ll update you on what I’m currently writing (once I take off the lab coat), and I’ll include some book recommendations—mainly what I’m currently reading—because nothing excites me more than discovering a great book (plus it’s a safer way to ensure no spoilers!). And then there’s the 'side of science.' Are science and art really all that different? I would love your thoughts on this as we dive deeper together.

My own Meet-cute + Free books for the weekend!

Spring is finally here! You may not know it yet, but spring, some 20+ years ago, was when I first met the LOVE OF MY LIFE. At the place least expected and a time... even more unexpected. It was a very hot, humid day. My blouse was sticking to my skin. My hair was messy from the walk and the wind. And as Meet-cutes sometimes go, I stumbled into his workplace. The most handsome man I'd ever seen. I wasn't a scientist yet, but as his eyes met mine, I already knew that our kind of chemistry was the once-in-a-lifetime kind. Speaking of chemistry, I’ve been excited to dive into some book recommendations from the latest Emma Aiseman newsletter that captures romance with a side of science—perfect for this enchanting season!

It's my birthday this month, and as I embrace the reality of being a year older—even though I feel exactly the same as I did last year—I take some time to reflect on the things I'd like to change this year. A significant one is spending more time with family. Work can be incredible, especially when you love what you do, and I truly enjoy my career as a scientist. It keeps me busy, challenges me, and helps me step out of my comfort zone while also inspiring new stories and ideas, including some interesting book recommendations that I've come across. However, family must always come first, as they are the ones who support me through this journey of romance with a side of science. Don't forget to check out the Emma Aiseman newsletter for more insights on balancing work and family!

I can't believe it's almost August! And why too much work is bad for your... work. This summer has gone by so quickly; I don't think I've had a chance to enjoy it enough. Not a good thing considering my recent project to clear some much-needed real estate on my work calendar. Speaking of my work, I promised an update on that. The first step has been divvying up some of my science-related tasks and meetings, delegating what’s possible while ensuring I keep the aspects I love. This has slowly but surely started to reveal glimpses of empty time slots on my calendar. With some extra time on my hands, I’ve been diving into some book recommendations from the Emma Aiseman newsletter, particularly those that feature romance with a side of science.
